Chat Rules of Conduct

0. We have rules, because even anarchists need some guidelines.

Rules

The main purpose of the chat is to have a place where both veteran and new Popmundo players can meet and have fun.
The easiest way to connect to chat is by opening http://popodeus.com/chat/
For more detailed technical information there is a comprehensive wiki at http://www.popowiki.com/en/Chat.
To ensure that our chat is enjoyable for everyone, there are some simple rules for you to follow:

1. Language

1.1. The official language of chat is English so that everyone can appreciate and understand what is being said. If you wish to communicate in another language please do so in a private chat or another channel.
1.2. Talking in-character and roleplay is encouraged, but make sure people are in a mood for that or you might not get the response you expect. Real-world chat is of course allowed too.

2. Nicknames

2.1. Your nickname must look like: FirstnameLastname of a character you control in Popmundo.
Please remove any hyphens/dashes from the nick and do not use underscores. (Not John_Doe, it must be JohnDoe).
2.2. You may only use characters you are in control of as primary parent, who have reached the in-game age of 12 years.
2.3. You may be logged in the channel with only one character at any one time. If in doubt, ask a channel operator for guidelines.
2.4. Even if we appreciate many forms of jokes and humor, do not play around with your nickname and never ever impersonate someone else! (This is grounds for your removal and a ban from entering the channel again).
To change your nickname, type in /nick YourNewNick into the chat window, and the server will change the nickname for you.

3. Respect each other

3.1. Do not nitpick and provoke just to get a reaction from other users or operators. Personal attacks, or so called "flame baits" are not accepted. This rule applies to both roleplay and out of character behavior. If someone else behaves badly it does not give you the right to do the same. Everyone should have a pleasant stay in chat and if someone tries to ruin that they might end up being banned for a long time.
3.2. Real-life gossip is NOT tolerated. If the person isn't in chat telling us details about their personal life, it is not to be talked about in public. This rule is to protect our chatters' privacy.
Roleplay gossip about Popmundo characters (not persons) is allowed of course.
3.3. Profane and reasonably "adult" language is allowed as long as no one is offended by it. If you find the language in chat to be over the top, please tell any of the operators and they will do their best to act on it. Just because it's roleplay, it doesn't have to be repugnant. When pasting links to the channel, make sure to warn ahead if it contains adult material. In most cases, adult links should not be posted in the channel but only as a private message to those asking for it.
If anyone is offended, either the target of the attack or someone else, it is most probably considered as abuse, but remember that each case is reviewed individually. The operators will take the action they find appropriate at the given time.
3.4. Be careful with sending private messages. Not everyone appreciates chatting in private and would prefer to keep their attention to the main chat itself. You should ask the person in question if they mind a private chat before initiating one.

4. No flooding

4.1. Do not flood the channel or use CAPITAL letters too frequently. Think twice about hitting that enter key too early. Use it sparingly. Too many short messages only makes chat scroll too fast and hard to follow. Instead of writing each phrase on a separate line, use the dot/period key and write on the same line.
The limit for flooding is about 5-6 lines in 20 seconds, while the CAPS-limit is about 20 characters. We say about, because sometimes it's more, sometimes it's less depending on how busy the chat is. Listen to the operator.
4.2. No spam. Do not abuse scripts that let everybody know what song you are currently listening to, or overuse scripts that are triggered by events in chat etc. Only the official bot is allowed, and its built-in time limits are the norm.
4.3. If you are kicked, make sure you don't join chat again before you have understood the reason. Correct the mistake before you come back in.

5. Chat operators

Chat operators The operators are the caretakers in the chat. You recognize them either by an @ or % symbol in front of their nickname (or a house or a star after the nick on Mibbit).
  • %MaryjaneLopes
  • @BethChristou
  • @JarkkoSohkanen
  • @VeraRose
If you feel uncertain about the rules, don't hesitate to ask the operators for help and advice. Some of the rules mentioned here do not apply to the operators, so that they can perform their work unhindered.
5.1. Do not ignore an operator. If you won't listen to warnings or advice from an operator, there is no other solution than to kick you out for breaking the rules.
5.2. When a punishment is issued it is usually only a matter between the operators and the user being punished. Do not argue and question every decision made or it will likely get you a one-way ticket out of #Popmundo chat.
Enjoy your stay in chat and respect your fellow users!

6. MsLuvaLuva

Our channel bot is named MsLuvaLuva and she kicks ass! Her job is to maintain chat logs and statistics, keep us entertained and well informed of the events of Popmundo.
Chat commands
Chat has a few commands you can use. You type them into the text field where you normally talk.
  • /nick YourPopoName - To change your nickname
  • !who - Detailed character info about yourself. If this command fails, please fix your nickname!
  • !who SomePopoName - Detailed character info about someone
  • !assets SomePopoName - Someone's money in the bank
  • !asl SomePopoName - Age/Sex/Location of Popmundo character
  • !ud term - Query Urbandictionary.com for the first term.
  • !ud number term - Query Urbandictionary.com for the n:th term.
  • !weather location/postal code - Weather low/high for today and tomorrow.
Please check http://popodeus.com/chat/bot for full command reference.

7. Nick registration

Registering your nickname is encouraged. This way other chatters can be sure you are who you claim to be and it will help you reclaim your nick if your connection breaks and you lose contact with the chat server.
You register your nickname with an irc service called Nickserv. Instead of typing /msg NickServ, you may be able to use /ns, which is a shorthand version in some chat clients.
  • /msg NickServ REGISTER password123 email@example.com - Registers your current active nick. Make sure the email provided is valid! Do NOT use a password that you use anywhere else.
  • /msg NickServ IDENTIFY password123 - After registration, whenever you login to chat, this is the first thing you should do. If your IRC client can do automatic indentification for you, enable the feature.
  • /msg NickServ GHOST nickname password123 - Disconnects anyone using your nickname (or kills off a timed out connection)
  • /msg NickServ GROUP nickname password123 - Groups your current nickname (which should be different from your main nickname) with another previously registered nickname. This way you can have more registered nicks with the same pass. For example JaneDoe and JaneFoo.
